Camp Cole

CAMP COLE: A RARE OPPORTUNITY

Camp Robert Cole is nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains,
just a short drive east of Sacramento. Camp Cole offers the scouter and
leader alike an unparallel scouting experience. Granite canyons and tree-lined
trails offer great day hikes or mountain biking opportunities. Fishing,
Swimming, Sailing, Rock Climbing and all kinds of shooting sports fill out the
scout camp experience. Block schedules mean more completed merit badges
and give the leaders time to relax and enjoy the relaxing beauty that Camp
Robert Cole is famous for.

Camp Robert L. Cole offers Scouts a fantastic summer adventure. A
wilderness camp located seven miles north of Cisco Grove, California off of
I-80 at an elevation of 6700', each unit has its own campsite. Scouts camp in
tents, cooking their meals by patrols, or eating at our new dining facility.
The Cole program includes opportunities for advancement for scouts seeking
First Class, as well as challenges to those seeking high adventure. The Cole
Trek is a six-day, 50-mile trek through mountainous terrain, sparkling lakes
and streams. Trout abound in the cold waters of the high mountain
backcountry lakes, and the views are breath taking. Cole also offers
Mountain Biking Treks, Rock Climbing, Mountain man Program, and a unique
Build Your Own Program week.

Camp Lassen

Camp Lassen Boy Scout Camp is located 45 minutes east of Chico, off Highway 32 near Butte Meadows, California. At an elevation of 4200 ft. amidst beautiful evergreen trees, Camp Lassen offers both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts a traditional Scouting program. Boy Scouts not only earn merit badges, but also have the opportunity to face an outstanding C.O.P.E. course, climbing wall, horseback riding, metalworking, mountain bikes, and an outpost program geared to the older Scout. A large dining hall, cabins, and adirondacks enhance the Camp Lassen experience.

Camp Lassen’s program is based on Baden-Powell’s concept of Scouts learning, practicing, using scouting skills at camp.

Camp Nauvoo

Camp Nauvoo

Summary – Camp Nauvoo is latest addition to the Golden Empire Council’s group of Camps.  The camp is located in Placerville, California on 86.5 acres of mainly forested land.  The camp boasts a stream which runs through the Oak and Pine forests and a large grassy area, which is perfect for individual and group activities.  As the camp is in the Sierra Foothills with limited access and parking, it makes an ideal location for weekend camping, hiking and backpacking.  You may even see a number of wild turkeys who are the full time residents of the camp.
Currently the camp is intended for use by units, patrols and families.  The camp is also a great place to hold training classes (like National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)).  The camp has running water at the lodge/dining hall, showers and flushing toilets, a number of tent platforms and an amphitheatre with a large campfire pit for skits, songs, stunts and flag retirement ceremonies.  In the long term, the camp will become a Cub Scout Resident Camp.  In the meantime, you can contact the Council office to reserve the camp for your weekend camping, hiking or training activities.

Camp Pahatsi

Camp Pahatsi

Located in Soda Springs off Interstate 80, above the old Royal Gorge Ski Resort, Camp Pahatsi was an active summer Boy Scout until 2002.  At that time, the lodge burned down and was not rebuilt. Today, Camp Pahatsi is available to scouts in the Golden Empire Council in exchange for a service project.  Three lakes situated among pine forest and large boulders provide a beautiful camping experience.
Amenities:
Large Lake – 10 acres of lake with a maximum depth of eight feet; suitable for swimming, canoeing, fishing and non-motorized water sports.  Troops should bring their own canoes and equipment as they are not available at camp.
Rifle Range – Troops should bring targets, shooting blocks, guns and ammo and they MUST have the properly trained personnel to operate shooting range.
Archery Range – Troops should bring targets and equipment and properly trained personnel to operate archery range.
Campsites – There are many campsites available, some with concrete pads for canvas tents, but canvas tents are not available.  Troops should bring their own tents.
Campfire Bowl – Beautiful campfire bowl is available next to the lake.  There are log benches with room to seat over 100.
Bathrooms – Most campsites have a pit toilet and there is a main pit toilet facility at the lake front.
Water – There is no running water at Camp Pahatsi.  Troops should bring water with them.
RV Hookups – There are two spaces to park and hookup RVs.  Check with Camp Administrator to arrange RV parking.
Parking – Camp Pahatsi has ample parking in provided parking lot.

Activities:
Troop Camping – Camp Pahatsi provides a good location to focus on Scout Skills for Rank advancement.  Or bring Merit Badge Counselors with you and work on requirements.
Hiking – Camp Pahatsi has beautiful terrain for hiking.
Family Camp or Multi-Unit Camping – Invite other troops to join you for a weekend, pool your resources and offer merit badges and scout skills or ask parents and siblings to join you so they can experience the scout program firsthand.
Service Projects:  Camp Pahatsi provides the opportunity for service to our Council.  Projects range from cleaning the lake front to clearing paths and moving downed trees.  Call Kathy Neuberger at (916) 768-3274 or email istahap@jps.net to arrange a camping experience for your troop.
